The planet’s last mountain gorilla

Adrian Steirn and Ginkgo Agency were invited by WWF to accompany actress Anna Friel and her daughter, Gracie, on a trip to visit the gorillas of Bwindi National Park in Uganda.

A photo essay and a five-minute short film documenting Anna and Gracie’s experience served to highlight WWF’s international campaign to persuade the withdrawal of oil exploration in Uganda’s neighbouring Virunga. The photographs and short film reflect a mother and child deeply moved by their experience of Uganda, its people and its wildlife.

Protecting a World Heritage Site

Friel’s candid close-up encounters with the gorillas, engaging conversations with those seeking to protect this UNESCO World Heritage Site and her impassioned account of Uganda convey a compelling message that is impossible to ignore.

As a result of the SOS Virunga campaign, UK oil company Soco ended its oil exploration operations in Virunga.
