Short film

The day after Nelson Mandela’s release from prison in 1990 was a Monday. But when the morning shift clocked in at the Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant in East London, South Africa, the mood was not business as usual.

The mood was charged, expectant. Mandela’s release meant change. So now what? 1990 was a volatile time for labour relations in the country. This is a film about the workforce, the company, who banded together to hand build an S-Class Mercedes-Benz for their beloved leader.

Told 23 years later, by the men who were there, on the plant floor, it is a moving portrayal of commitment and of passion. A story of labour. And of love.
